Living As If Everything Is a Miracle

Living As If Everything Is a Miracle

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” — Albert Einstein

I’ve always been fascinated by Albert Einstein. Even as a teenager, I admired how one of the greatest minds of our time emphasized imagination, curiosity, and the simple pleasures of life. Beyond black holes and mathematical formulas, he often pointed to something much more subtle — a sense of wonder. A reverence for the everyday.

Growing up, I was surrounded by mentors and family who emphasized gratitude — the importance of appreciating the gifts we so often overlook. Still, in today’s fast-paced world driven by deadlines, metrics, and dopamine hits, it’s easy to lose sight of the miracles happening in every single moment.

We forget that every breath is a miracle. That simply being alive — conscious, mobile, breathing air produced by trees, processing the world around us through a symphony of electrical impulses — is miraculous. That we live on a rock spinning through space, orbiting a sun, witnessing sunrises and sunsets as part of the cosmic choreography.

If I want to witness a miracle, I need only look to nature. A flower blooming. A rainbow after a storm. A stranger’s smile. My fellow travelers on this shared human journey.
Even the things we’ve grown numb to — electricity, lightbulbs, radios, air travel, cell phones, the internet — were once unthinkable. They are flashes of inspiration that have become everyday magic. And yet, somehow, we scroll past the miracle.

So how do we come back to seeing the world through this lens?

What if we began to shift our perspective?
What if we started to see being human — this body, this consciousness, this moment — as a miracle in itself?

Sure, technology is amazing. But what if we returned to the source — our own inner world, our relationships, our shared experiences? These are the real miracles. Not what we accumulate, but how we feel it all. How we live it.

Yes, I can focus on what’s lacking — what I don’t have, what isn’t working, what I can’t do. But at any given moment, I can pivot. I can choose a new lens. Even inconveniences — a red light, a long line, a spilled coffee — might be part of some divine orchestration. Delaying me for reasons I’ll never understand. Protecting me in ways I’ll never see.

The real miracle might just be the willingness to see it all differently.

A Personal Journal Entry

Looking at everyday as a miracle. Filled with miracles. Getting a run in — miracle. Breathing fresh air — miracle. A chance for deep healing — miracle. Rain falling outside — miracle. I’m in a body with cognition and the ability to move because of electrical impulses — miracle.

Even more so is the brain’s ability to perceive all of this — to reshape reality through the lens of awareness. Quantum physics, anyone?

The real miracle is sitting in my body, feeling what’s here, and releasing the stories I assign to other people’s actions. Meeting discomfort with non-reactivity and compassion. And sometimes, the greatest gift others offer is the chance to look into the dark corners of myself and find radical acceptance. A miracle, through and through.

So, what if we made a small shift today — and chose to see everything as miraculous?
The breeze, the traffic, the timing, the breath, the hug, the thought.
Every. Single. Thing.

That small shift might just be the most seismic movement to ever shake your existence.
