Deep muddy ruts on a dirt road, symbolizing feeling stuck and the challenge of breaking free from limiting self-beliefs.

The Rut, The Lies, and the Habit That Set Me Free

August 15, 20253 min read

The only thing standing between you and achieving your dreams?

The bullsh*t lies you keep telling yourself.

I’m not good enough. I don't have a choice. I don’t deserve to be successful. No one cares what I have to say. What if I fail? What if I succeed? I’m not ready. The market is too saturated. I don’t know how to do XYZ. The risk is too high. The rejection might hurt.

So instead… I stay safe. Comfortable.
Stuck.
In my well-worn rut.

I tell myself it's just a season. But seasons change. And I’ve been here too long.

Let’s get honest:
This pattern? It’s programming.

Our brains are wired to keep us in the familiar—even if the familiar is miserable. Even if it keeps us stuck in a cycle of spinning our tires deeper into the mud of our own limiting beliefs. I’ve been there.

For me, the voice of fear has always been the loudest.
What if I mess it all up? What if I look stupid? What if I can’t follow through? What if I really have nothing valuable to offer?

These stories are exhausting. And the truth? They’re just that—stories.

So how do we break the cycle?

For me, it started by acknowledging the dream:
To run a meaningful, successful business.
To help others transform.
To live more fully as me.

Then came the next step: turning that dream into a goal.
Followed by action.
Then—maybe the hardest part of all—not quitting when the old stories came creeping back.

Because here’s my honest truth:
For a long time, I didn’t even know myself.

Not deeply. Not the way that allows you to confidently say:
This is who I am. This is what I want. This is what I’m here to do.

Instead, I was living to meet expectations.
To show up in ways that kept everyone else comfortable.
To shrink the loudest, truest parts of myself so they didn’t rock the boat.

What changed?

A daily habit.

It sounds too simple, I know. But starting a consistent meditation practice truly changed my life.

That small habit gave me space to listen.
To observe my own thoughts.
To stop letting fear drive the bus.

Habits, whether helpful or harmful, become who we are.
We are what we repeatedly do. And whether we realize it or not, the stories we feed ourselves are habits too.

“I can’t…” “I’m not…” “They’ll never…”

Those thought loops are worn-in neural grooves.
But just like physical habits, mental habits can change.

Here’s where you can start:

Do a habit audit.
Take a look at how you move through your day.
Notice the internal dialogue you’re repeating.
Ask yourself—what’s keeping me stuck?
And more importantly—what would move me forward?

You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight.
But you do need to begin.
With one small action.
One microshift.
One habit change that opens the door to something new.

If this message hit home, I invite you to dig deeper with me.
We begin by exploring the thoughts, the habits, and the mindset patterns that keep us looping. We bring awareness to what’s actually happening behind the scenes. And we gently, consistently, start to shift.

We all need reminders that we’re not stuck. We’re not broken.
We’re just one small habit away from forward motion.
